Dagenham cruiserweight Robin Dupre is determined to walk away from boxing with a belt.

Dupre is back in action on manager Mickey Helliet’s show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, July 13 – and he sees the fight as a stepping stone to a possible Southern Area-title eliminator.

Durpre has fallen short in big fights against Luke Watkins, for the vacant Commonwealth title, and Chris Billam-Smith, and at 32, he accepts the clock is ticking on his ring career and that he needs to start winning again.

“I’m not going to be one of the fighters who hangs around for too long,” he said.

“I know I’m not getting any younger. I want to get on another winning streak, win the Southern Area title and then see if the phone starts ringing again.

“But at the moment, I would be happy to be Southern Area champion. I want to walk away from boxing with a belt and I have faith in Mickey to deliver me the big fights.

“First of all, I need to start winning again.”

The Southern Are belt is currently worn by Daniel Mendes – and Dupre could be two wins away from challenging for the title. His last fight was a five-round retirement loss to Billam-Smith last October, a result that dented his title hopes.

“I wish I was further along in my career,” said Dupre, “but I’ve had those two losses and now I need to start winning again.

“I feel I’ve learned from the fights I’ve lost and at least I can say I never turned a fight down. When I do retire, I can walk away knowing that I took every tough fight I was offered and not every boxer can say that.”
